Slay the Spire 2 New Characters — Who Joins the Roster?

Updated 2026-06-02

New Faces on the Spire

Slay the Spire 2 brings back Ironclad and Silent from the original, but the big draw is the new roster. Mega Crit confirmed three fresh characters in early access, each with unique mechanics. Here is who you can play.

  • The Necromancer — A mana-fueled caster who summons skeletal minions and drains enemy life. Her gimmick is a "Soul Gauge" that fills as enemies die, unlocking powerful necrotic spells.
  • The Hedgehog — A defensive tank who curls into a spiked ball. The Hedgehog builds "Armor Spikes" that reflect damage back at attackers. Slow starter, but nearly unkillable late-game.
  • The Myrmidon — A fast-paced soldier who swaps weapon stances. Myrmidon flows between Sword, Spear, and Shield forms, each changing what his cards do. High skill cap, great for players who like flexibility.
Ironclad and Silent return with reworked kits. Ironclad lost some exhaust synergies but gained better self-heal options. Silent kept poison but got new shiv-based cards to replace old discard builds.

Rumor has it a fourth character, the Automaton, may arrive in a later update. Mega Crit has not confirmed this. For now, you have four characters total to climb the spire with.

FAQ

Will Slay the Spire 2 have mod support for custom characters?
Yes. Mega Crit confirmed Steam Workshop support at launch. Modders can create custom characters, cards, relics, and whole acts.
Are all original characters returning?
No. Only Ironclad and Silent return. Defect and Watcher are not in the base game. Mega Crit said they may add them in post-launch updates if there is demand.
Can you unlock new characters or are they all available from the start?
All four characters — Ironclad, Silent, Necromancer, and Hedgehog — are available from the start. Myrmidon requires beating Act 3 with any character first.
