Vexing Puzzlebox Slay the Spire 2 — Relic Guide

Updated 2026-06-02

What Does the Vexing Puzzlebox Do?

The Vexing Puzzlebox is a new rare relic in Slay the Spire 2. It reads: "At the start of each turn, add a random card to your hand. It costs 0 until played."

This relic can brick your hand. The random card can be anything from your entire card pool, not just your deck. You might draw a curse or a card that does nothing for your build.

Good synergies: Necromancer loves extra cards to fuel her Soul Gauge. Silent shiv builds can usually play whatever they draw. Ironclad with exhaust synergies can dump bad cards. Bad matchups: The Hedgehog who relies on precise armor rotation hates unpredictability.

Should You Take It?

Take it if your deck cycles fast or you have card draw to filter. Skip it if you run a tight combo deck where one bad draw ruins your turn. On average, the free card is worth it — just be ready to click End Turn on garbage.

FAQ

Does Vexing Puzzlebox stack with itself?
No. Multiple copies do not give extra cards each turn. The effect triggers once per turn regardless of how many you hold.
Can the random card be a curse?
Yes. Curses like Writhe or Clumsy can appear. That is the risk you take.
Does the card stay in your hand if not played?
Yes. If the free card is not played that turn, it stays in your hand as a normal card with its original cost.
